January 2010

Welcome to the January 2010 issue of Runge Software News, our software newsletter that provides you with simple, easy-to-read information on how to get the most out of Runge’s technology solutions.

In this issue we outline the new and improved features of Xact’s latest release – Version 1.5 - and provide you with the latest product release and training details. We also have our regular sections: hints and tips, forum topics, help, etc.

The recent release of Xact 1.5 has provided users with some key improvements as well as introducing new functionality that makes using Xact even easier. These enhancements cover a broad range of functions within Xact, a brief outline is provided below:

Advanced Dependencies - New dependency behaviours have been implemented to give greater flexibility when scheduling.

Task Templates - Task templates now support advanced dependencies, which means some fields have changed to accommodate this enhancement.

Scheduling Templates - This new functionality has been implemented to enable users to create various scheduling scenarios for the Gantt chart. This new feature is another outcome of the Advanced Dependencies function.

Distributed Xact - Schedulers can now work simultaneously using a Project Distribution Server. The Server tracks and combines scheduling updates easily and feeds them back into the master schedule.

Polygon Graphics - Polygon plots now encompass some new features including: animations, annotations, printing, range operations, right-click additions (export of plot to image file, navigation to the Gantt chart, task spreadsheet and task operations).

Event Viewer - Warning and error messages are displayed in Event Viewer, which allows the user to quickly identify and resolve errors in the project.

Circular Dependency Report - This new functionality identifies circular references and displays the dependency relationships graphically.

User Interface Changes - Some user interface elements have been renamed or replaced to reflect new functionality.
